Heriot-Watt University has launched a new highly cross-disciplinary theme in Creativity, Design and Innovation. To date it comprises seven projects:

- Crowds: visual co-design via rich crowd-sourcing
- PCM supported thermo-regulated garments
- Revolutionising the design of shaped 3D textile composites
- See-touch-interact: intellisense materials and beyond!
- Smart Costumes: smart textiles and wearable technology in pervasive computing environments
- TED stocking revolution
